Burj Khalifa illuminates with Olympic colors to mark International Olympic Day

Dubai’s iconic Burj Khalifa showcased the Olympic Games logo and the vibrant colors of its five rings to honor International Olympic Day. On Sunday, the world’s tallest building displayed the “Let’s Move” message, echoing this year’s global theme.

Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Second Deputy Ruler of Dubai and President of the National Olympic Committee, highlighted the UAE’s dedication to promoting the Olympic Movement. He stated in a Gulf News report, “The UAE’s commitment to advancing the Olympic Movement underscores the vital role sports play in our society and reflects our leaders’ resolve to support and contribute to Olympic endeavors.”

Olympic Day, celebrated annually by National Olympic Committees worldwide, commemorates the founding of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on June 23, 1894. This year’s theme, ‘Let’s Move and Celebrate,’ encourages global participation in sports and physical activity.

Sheikh Ahmed emphasized the significance of sports in fostering core Olympic values. “Participation in sports enhances performance and reinforces ideals of sportsmanship, fair play, and unity—fundamental goals driving excellence and fostering a sense of brotherhood among athletes worldwide.”

The Burj Khalifa’s display included the IOC’s logo, the five-ring colors, and the Paris Olympics logo, marking the event for the second consecutive year. “We are proud to participate in Olympic Day events in coordination with the IOC,” Sheikh Ahmed said. “This event, held just weeks before the Paris Olympic Games, promotes movement, health, and fitness.”

Sheikh Ahmed also highlighted the importance of the UAE team’s participation in the upcoming Paris Olympics. He noted, “Competing in this prestigious global sporting event will inspire our athletes to achieve outstanding results and make our country proud.”
