Former Vice President Leni Robredo is set to run for the mayoral position in Naga City in the upcoming midterm elections, as confirmed by Liberal Party President and Albay 1st district Representative Edcel Lagman. In a recent interaction with the press, Lagman emphasized Robredo’s intent to continue the legacy of her late husband, Jesse Robredo, who previously held the position and was a revered local leader.
“Our last conversation affirmed her decision to run for mayor of Naga City to carry forward the programs initiated by her late husband,” Lagman stated.
The announcement came amid speculations of Robredo potentially being appointed as the next Department of Education (DepEd) secretary following Vice President Sara Duterte’s resignation from the post. However, when asked about the possibility, Lagman remarked, “That’s Leni’s call. We have no control over that.”
Robredo, a key figure in the “Kakampinks” movement, was a prominent candidate in the May 2022 presidential race, finishing second to Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.
