Nearly 30 flights cancelled at Manila Airport as Kanlaon Volcano erupts

The eruption of Mount Kanlaon in the Philippines has disrupted air travel, with nearly 30 flights cancelled at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in Manila. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) raised the alert level for Kanlaon to Level 2 on Monday night after a six-minute explosive eruption.

Ash and steam from the eruption reached five kilometers into the sky, prompting aviation authorities to warn pilots against flying near the volcano’s peak due to potential hazards from volcanic debris.

Meanwhile, Indonesia’s Mount Ibu also erupted on Tuesday, spewing ash several kilometers high. No evacuations have been reported yet, but authorities have restricted activity within a seven-kilometer radius of the crater.
