In Pinukpuk, Kalinga, an elderly couple was tragically killed by their 24-year-old neighbor on Wednesday, May 15. The victims, identified as Ruben Dangiwan, 65, a farmer, and his 64-year-old wife Apolonia, hosted a social gathering at their home in Sitio Magtanga, Barangay Wagod, which included the young suspect and several friends.
After the other guests had left, an argument ensued between the suspect and Ruben, allegedly over suspicions of an affair between the suspect and Apolonia. The confrontation escalated rapidly, leading the suspect to fatally attack both Ruben and his wife Apolonia with a machete.
Police discovered the bodies of the couple at the scene along with the weapon used in the crime. Following a swift investigation, the suspect was arrested in a follow-up operation where he reportedly confessed to the murders. Charges of murder have been filed against him.
