A viral video capturing a Caracal, also known locally as Al Washq, wandering close to a residential area in Fujairah has prompted an investigation by the emirate’s environmental authority. Announced on Monday, the Fujairah Environment Agency has dispatched a specialist team to verify the presence of the animal in the location where it was initially seen by residents.
The medium-sized cat, known for its ability to jump up to 10 feet in the air to catch prey, is being checked to ascertain if it is a stray or owned by a local resident. Should the Caracal belong to someone, the authority has stated that legal measures will be enforced against the owner.
Residents have been cautioned to avoid close interactions with the wild animal and to keep a safe distance. The same warning has been extended to wildlife enthusiasts. For incidents involving wild animals, the authority has made available a toll-free number, 800368, for reporting purposes.
