UAE ramps up mosquito control efforts following heavy rains

Following historic rains on April 16, the UAE has intensified its mosquito control initiatives to curb the recent surge in pest infestations, especially in Dubai. The Dubai Municipality announced on Saturday that it has expanded chemical, physical, and biological control measures in response to the increased mosquito sightings.

Efforts include disinfection and sterilization operations targeting 102 water collection sites and over 75,000 drainage outlets to prevent mosquito breeding. Adel Al Karrani, Director of the Public Health Services Department at Dubai Municipality, highlighted the use of bacterial capsules for larval control and spray and smoke pesticides for adult mosquitoes. The municipality has also placed mosquito traps and applied significant quantities of both liquid and solid pesticides.

These actions are part of a broader strategy to enhance public health and ensure community protection through the use of eco-friendly pesticides, adhering to carefully designed control plans. The focus extends across parks, markets, residential, commercial, and industrial areas, with teams working continuously to maintain a sanitary environment free from disease-transmitting pests.
