Time recognizes President Bongbong Marcos Jr. among ‘100 Most Influential People of 2024’

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has been honored by Time Magazine, earning a spot in the esteemed “100 Most Influential People of 2024” list. Time Magazine acknowledged Marcos’ significant contributions to economic recovery post-COVID-19 and his efforts in elevating the Philippines on the global platform.

In the profile, Time Magazine highlighted Marcos’ firm stance on the West Philippine Sea amidst escalating tensions in the region. The President’s stance against Chinese aggression in the disputed South China Sea and his efforts to strengthen the nation’s alliance with the U.S. were particularly noted.

“Bongbong has stood steadfast against Chinese aggression in the disputed South China Sea and bolstered his nation’s alliance with the U.S. in the face of rising tensions in our region and the world,” read a segment from Marcos’ profile in the Time 100 issue.

Despite challenges such as ongoing concerns regarding extrajudicial killings and attacks on journalists, Time Magazine expressed optimism about Marcos’ potential to reshape the country by working to repair his family’s name.

This recognition adds Marcos to the list of former Philippine Presidents who have been honored by Time Magazine, including Rodrigo Duterte in 2017 and Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino in 2013.

The Presidential Communications Office (PCO) praised Marcos’ inclusion in the Time 100 list, emphasizing his leadership style prioritizing the national interest and the welfare of every Filipino.

“Despite geopolitical tensions and the hurdles posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, President Marcos has elevated the Philippines on the world stage and contributed to regional stability, notably in the Indo-Pacific region,” added the PCO.
