In Dumaguete City, the life of a 17-year-old boy was endangered due to popping a pimple on his nose. His mother, Monaliza, shared the ordeal on the recent episode of “Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho,” recounting how the pimple appeared on March 25.
However, when the pimple was accidentally popped, it swelled slightly and developed pus. Justin, the teenager, decided to squeeze it to release the pus and blood.
Unfortunately, this led to Justin experiencing headaches and a change in the color of his nose. Concerned, Monaliza decided to take him to the hospital when his medication didn’t work. But before they reached the emergency room, Justin fainted.
According to dermatologist Dr. Grace Carole Beltran, while rare, popping a pimple in the so-called “danger zone” or “triangle of death” on the face, comprising the nose and upper lip area, can potentially be fatal as the infection can spread to the brain.
Upon examination at the hospital, Justin already had an infection and pus. After 30 minutes of unconsciousness, he woke up feeling better and continues to recover.
Justin celebrated his 17th birthday in the hospital due to the incident. Beltran reminds that oily and sweet foods, as well as stress, should be avoided for those with pimples.
Reflecting on his experience, Justin advised, “Do not pop pimples, as it might lead to my death.”
