Worker in UAE dies after mosque scaffolding collapse

A tragic incident unfolded on Tuesday night as a worker lost his life in Sharjah when scaffolding at an under-construction mosque collapsed. The accident, which occurred in the Al Khan area, also resulted in injuries to four other workers, as confirmed by an official at Sharjah Police to Gulf News. Promptly, Sharjah Police and national ambulances rushed to the scene to assist the injured workers, swiftly transporting them to the hospital.

According to reports from workers at the site, the incident happened around 11pm while laborers were engaged in constructing the minaret of the mosque. The sudden collapse of the scaffolding led to the workers plummeting to the ground. Tragically, one worker, a 28-year-old man from Uganda, succumbed to his injuries on the spot. His body was later moved to the hospital.

While three of the injured workers were discharged after receiving treatment, one remains hospitalized. Identified as a 26-year-old from Uganda, his condition is reported to be stable, and officials anticipate his discharge after completing treatment.

Authorities have initiated an investigation into the incident, which casts a shadow over the final stages of the mosque’s construction. Scheduled to be inaugurated by the end of Ramadan, the completion of the mosque now faces the somber aftermath of this unforeseen tragedy.
