President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. has seen a significant decline in his trust and approval ratings, according to the latest Pulse Asia survey released on Tuesday. While still enjoying appreciation from the majority of Filipinos, his performance rating dropped by 13 points from 68 to 55 between December 2023 and March 2024.
The decline in Marcos’ ratings was widespread, with the most substantial decreases observed in Mindanao, where his performance rating fell by 40 percent from 62 percent, and among Class E respondents, where it dropped by 48 percent from 68 percent.
Similarly, Marcos’ trust rating decreased by 16 points, from 73 percent in December 2023 to 57 percent in March 2024. The sharpest drops were again seen in Mindanao, where trust decreased by 38 percent, and among Class E respondents, where it fell by 45 percent.
Meanwhile, Vice President Sara Duterte experienced a more modest decline in trust rating, dropping by 7 points to 71 percent from 78 percent in March. Her performance rating also decreased from 74 percent to 67 percent, with the most significant drop observed among Class E respondents.
Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri, on the other hand, saw a slight increase in trust rating by 2 points, reaching 53 percent, while his performance rating improved to 52 percent from 49 percent.
In contrast, Speaker Martin Romualdez faced a decline in both trust and performance ratings, dropping to 31 percent from 40 percent and 39 percent, respectively. Double-digit decreases were noted in various regions and among Class E respondents.
The survey, conducted from March 6 to 10, 2024, provides insights into shifting public perceptions towards key political figures in the Philippines.
