53 exemplary OFWs in Taiwan rewarded with permanent residency opportunity

Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) exhibiting outstanding performance in Taiwanese companies have been granted a unique opportunity. According to Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO) chairman Silvestre H. Bello III, those who have demonstrated exceptional dedication in their workplaces are being promoted and offered the chance to permanently reside in Taiwan alongside their families.

This initiative has already been extended to 53 OFWs employed in various food companies in Taoyuan, notably I-Mei Foods Co. Ltd. I-Mei Foods, which has been employing Filipino workers for over three decades, has seen 53 OFWs rise to mid-managerial positions, exempting them from the maximum period of stay in Taiwan.

Bello highlighted the case of a Filipino worker who was recognized by the Taiwanese government for outstanding performance in an electronic company, resulting in a promotion to a managerial position.

Under Taiwan’s regulations, foreign workers are typically permitted a maximum of 12 years of employment in manufacturing firms unless assigned mid-level positions. However, with the assistance of their employers, these exceptional OFWs can now apply for permanent residency, paving the way for their families to join them in Taiwan.
