President Marcos Jr. affirms commitment to protecting rights of Filipino workers in Germany

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. pledged unwavering support to Filipino workers in Germany during his recent visit, emphasizing the government’s commitment to their welfare and rights.

Addressing thousands of Filipinos gathered in Berlin, President Marcos, accompanied by First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, expressed his dedication to ensuring that overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) are treated with the respect and dignity they deserve.

“We are working tirelessly to ensure that you are treated with the dignity and the respect that you deserve,” President Marcos assured the community, highlighting various initiatives aimed at safeguarding OFWs’ rights and well-being.

Among these initiatives are the One Repatriation Command Center and the 24/7 OFW helpline 1348, established by the Department of Migrant Workers. Additionally, the government offers reintegration programs for returning OFWs and educational assistance for their children.

Acknowledging the significant contributions of Filipinos abroad, President Marcos praised their role as “modern heroes” and highlighted their substantial economic impact, citing remittances that reached USD 33.5 billion last year.

Furthermore, President Marcos assured OFWs of the government’s stance on territorial disputes, affirming that the Philippines will not yield its claim in the South China Sea.

“Nagkakaproblema po tayo ay may ibang bansa sinasabi ‘yung ating teritoryo ay kanila pala. Ngunit asahan ninyo hindi po tayo papayag dahil maliwanag na maliwanag naman na ito ay bahagi ng Pilipinas,” he stated, emphasizing the country’s resolve in asserting its territorial integrity.
