Sharjah to construct passenger train station linked to Etihad Rail network

Sharjah announced plans to erect a passenger train station connected to the Etihad Rail network. The announcement was made on Wednesday, with Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, the Ruler of Sharjah, attending the project launch at the Dr Sultan Al Qasimi House near the University City of Sharjah.

The new station, once operational, is expected to play a pivotal role in bolstering Etihad Train’s daily passenger traffic, projected to reach 14,000. Notably, it will cater to university students hailing from various parts of the country.

The extension of the railway network through Sharjah is anticipated to traverse key facilities, landmarks, and population centers, as outlined in a report by the state-run agency Wam. Sheikh Theyab bin Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, chairman of the Board of Directors of Etihad Rail Company, highlighted the significance of this development, emphasizing its role in facilitating seamless connectivity among residential communities in the Emirates and easing travel between Dubai and other northern emirates.

The UAE National Rail Network, spanning over 900 kilometers, is currently under development. Upon completion, it will link 11 cities and regions from Al Sila to Fujairah, encompassing key locations such as Al Ruwais, Al Mirfa, Fujairah, Sharjah, Al Dhaid, Abu Dhabi, and Dubai.
