Flight from Boracay to Shanghai diverted to Hong Kong after power bank explosion

A Royal Air Philippines flight bound for Shanghai from Boracay was diverted to Hong Kong International Airport on Tuesday night following a power bank explosion in the cabin.

Local media reported that the explosion caused smoke to fill the cabin, prompting the pilots to make an emergency landing. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported.

Video footage shared online captured the moments after the explosion on Flight RW602, showing smoke billowing from the front section of the aircraft, leading to alarm among passengers who moved towards the rear to avoid it.

After about an hour, the situation was resolved, allowing the flight to continue its journey. Despite the delay, passengers reached Shanghai around 12:30 am on Tuesday.

The exact number of passengers onboard at the time of the incident has not been disclosed. Authorities are still investigating the cause of the power bank explosion, which is prohibited from being placed in checked luggage according to regulations.
