Dubai opens upgraded Deira Old Souq Marine Transport Station

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai has announced the opening of the renovated Deira Old Souq Marine Transport Station on Tuesday. The station, which serves the Old Baladiya Road and Gold Souq areas, now connects Al Fahidi and Bur Dubai Stations as part of RTA’s efforts to enhance marine transport services.

The project, a vital component of RTA’s master plan, aims to modernize marine transport facilities to accommodate Dubai’s growing population and tourism sector. With marine transport being a cornerstone of Dubai’s transit system, catering to over 17 million passengers annually, the upgraded station is expected to offer improved services and amenities to commuters.

Ahmed Hashim Bahrozyan, CEO of RTA’s Public Transport Agency, highlighted the enhancements made to the station, including expanded sheltered waiting areas, retail outlets, and preservation of cultural identity. These upgrades have not only boosted user experience but also increased revenues by 27%, with a 15% rise in station capacity.

Moreover, the station has achieved a silver category Green Building Certification, showcasing RTA’s commitment to sustainability. Upgrades to lighting and the marina were also carried out using eco-friendly materials.

RTA is now focusing on completing the second phase of its project, aimed at upgrading two additional traditional abra stations along Dubai Creek, further improving the city’s marine transport infrastructure.
