UAE tops global 5G speed charts, sets new performance standards

The UAE Digital Economy Council announced on Monday that the adoption rate of the sixth version of the Internet Protocol (IPv6) in the UAE has reached 50.7% as of January 2024. Additionally, the level of mobile network coverage remains at a robust 100%.

According to the council, the UAE holds the top spot in the Middle East for Internet exchange traffic and ranks first globally in fifth-generation network speeds for 2023.

In Q2 2023, the UAE emerged as the fastest 5G market globally, with Ookla Speedtest Intelligence data revealing a median download speed of 557.63 Mbps. Notably, etisalat by e& claimed the title of the fastest 5G operator globally with a median download speed of 680.73 Mbps.

The council also highlighted significant advancements in digital signature adoption, which surged by 216% in 2023, alongside the integration of blockchain technology involving nine banks, six exchange houses, and three insurance companies.

Omar Sultan Al Olama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy, and Remote Work Applications, emphasized the UAE government’s proactive approach in designing visions and goals to foster a pioneering digital economy. He outlined initiatives aimed at accelerating the adoption of digital solutions to shape the nation’s digital future and enhance its global competitiveness.

The meeting of the UAE Council for Digital Economy, held at the Securities and Commodities Authority in Dubai, addressed strategic initiatives supporting the UAE’s digital economy objectives. These encompassed infrastructure development, digital transactions, e-commerce, financial technologies, investment stimulation, digital skills development, SME support, and digital economy statistics gathering.

Furthermore, the council delved into digital services within the federal network, including voice-to-text and text-to-voice conversion, translation services, emotion analysis, key phrase extraction, language analysis, and access to high-performance computing resources for machine learning and deep learning applications.
