The UAE has dispatched five automatic bakeries to the Egyptian city of Al Arish, marking a significant stride in aiding the Gaza Strip as part of the Gallant Knight 3 humanitarian operation to support Palestine.
Responding to the critical bread shortage in Gaza, the UAE’s initiative aims to address the pressing needs of the region’s populace. Once operational, these bakeries are projected to cater to the daily requirements of over 420,000 individuals, each boasting a production capacity of approximately 17,500 loaves per hour.
In ensuring seamless operation, the UAE commits to providing essential supplies like flour, diesel, and other necessary materials, guaranteeing round-the-clock functioning of these vital facilities. Additionally, the UAE pledges to cover the wages of personnel tasked with operating and overseeing the bakeries in Gaza.
Rashid Mubarak Al Mansouri, ERC Secretary-General, emphasized the UAE’s unwavering dedication to alleviating the suffering of Palestinians amidst the challenging circumstances in Gaza. He highlighted that the deployment of these bakeries is poised to significantly alleviate the food scarcity and improve the humanitarian plight in the region.
Underlining the broader efforts of the ERC within the Gallant Knight 3 operation, Al Mansouri reiterated the UAE’s commitment to leveraging its resources and capabilities to bolster humanitarian endeavors in support of Palestine.
Notably, the UAE’s assistance to the Palestinian people under the Gallant Knight 3 operation has been substantial, with over 15,700 tonnes of aid dispatched as of February 17, 2024. This aid includes the deployment of 162 cargo planes and the establishment of six water desalination plants, benefiting Gaza residents with a daily desalination capacity of approximately 1.2 million gallons.
