According to the latest ‘Quality of Life’ survey conducted by the Department of Community Development (DCD), about 94% of community members in Abu Dhabi expressed feeling secure and safe when walking alone at night. The survey, now in its fourth edition, engaged a significant number of participants, with 92,576 individuals representing over 160 nationalities contributing their opinions.
The comprehensive survey, aimed at measuring various quality of life indicators across demographics, included 14 main aspects such as housing, job opportunities, family income, personal security, and social relations. Dr Mugheer Khamis Al Khaili, chairman of DCD – Abu Dhabi, highlighted the survey’s role in confirming Abu Dhabi’s excellence in key indicators like security and digital quality of life while identifying social priorities for improvement.
Key findings of the survey indicate a high satisfaction rate among participants regarding safety, with 93.6% feeling safe when walking alone at night. Additionally, 75.4% of participants reported being able to rely on relatives and friends when needed, while 73% expressed happiness with the quality time spent with family.
Regarding economic satisfaction, 34.3% of household heads expressed contentment with family income, and 64.7% of employed participants conveyed job satisfaction. Satisfaction with housing stood at 70.6%, while the overall quality of life received a score of 6.94 out of 10. Moreover, the happiness level within the population increased to 7.69 points, up from the previous survey’s 7.63 points.
Engineer Shaikha Alhosani, executive director of the social monitoring and innovation sector at DCD, emphasized the survey’s role in identifying societal challenges and areas for improvement. The survey, based on OECD indicators and applied in 38 countries, serves as a vital tool for understanding community views and developing effective social policies and strategies.
