Nine young Filipino athletes from the Bushido Karate Club in Abu Dhabi proudly represented the Philippines at the 1st Al Buraimi Karate International Championship held in Oman, competing against 43 clubs from 14 countries. Under the leadership of Bushido Chief Instructor Zigomar F. Cruz and Coach Rolando Lagman Jr., the team brought home an impressive 9th-place finish, showcasing their dedication and skill on the international stage.
The Bushido Karate Club team committed themselves to rigorous training in preparation for the championship. Their preparations included intensive conditioning, skill drills, and mental resilience exercises to sharpen both physical and mental capabilities. The athletes honed their individual and group techniques, which proved crucial for their performance in the tournament.
Heregeña Guia Cruz, Chairman of Bushido Martial Arts and Fitness, shared with The Global Filipino Magazine that the team faced multiple challenges during their preparation and the event itself.
Balancing their personal lives and student responsibilities with the demanding training schedule was no easy task. Additionally, the international competition required them to adapt quickly to diverse fighting styles from top-tier clubs around the world. However, their discipline, support from coaches, and determination helped them overcome these hurdles.
“Their hard work and perseverance are a testament to the spirit of unity and strength in our community,” Cruz said.
