The State Security Court in Abu Dhabi is currently hearing a high-profile case involving 84 defendants, predominantly members of the Muslim Brotherhood, a designated terrorist organisation. These individuals stand accused of forming a secret group with the intent to execute acts of violence and terrorism on the soil of the United Arab Emirates.
This case, marked as Case No (17) of 2013 – State Security, came to light following a meticulous investigation that unveiled the suspects’ attempts to hide their criminal activities. Dr. Hamad Saif Al Shamsi, the Attorney-General of the UAE, spearheaded an in-depth probe into the matter, leading to the current trial.
The Abu Dhabi Federal Court of Appeal has taken charge of the proceedings, ensuring fairness and transparency. In a move to uphold the principles of justice, the court has assigned legal representation to each defendant lacking a lawyer. The trial, open to the public, has progressed to the stage of witness testimonies. However, the proceedings are still underway, with the court meticulously examining the evidence and allegations presented.
