The UAE Food Bank has kicked off the United in Giving campaign, aiming to distribute seven million meals to those in need during the holy month of Ramadan.
Launched under the guidance of Sheikha Hind bint Juma Al Maktoum, wife of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, the initiative encourages the community to come together and support those facing food insecurity.
“This campaign reflects the UAE’s strong values of generosity and compassion,” said Eng Marwan Ahmed bin Ghalita, vice chairman of the UAE Food Bank’s board of trustees in a Gulf News report. “It’s a call for individuals, businesses, and philanthropists to play a part in helping millions.”
The United in Giving campaign includes three main programs. The Blessing Baskets initiative will distribute over 200,000 meals daily through food donations and surplus meals. Meanwhile, Zabeel Iftar will provide meals to more than 3,000 workers, and Surplus of Good, in partnership with Fatafeat TV, aims to raise awareness on reducing food waste by repurposing leftovers into nutritious dishes.
Food from hotels, restaurants, companies, and individuals will also be collected and shared with those in need, in cooperation with various charitable organisations and partners across the UAE.
Through this campaign, the UAE Food Bank not only seeks to provide meals but also promote sustainability, reduce food waste, and strengthen the culture of giving during Ramadan.
