69-year-old fashion designer and beauty queen Jocelyn Cubales has entered the Miss Universe Philippines-Quezon City competition. Among the 15 contestants, Cubales stands out not just for her age but also for her extensive experience in life and pageantry.
The Miss Universe Organization’s decision last year to lift the age limit for contestants, previously capped at 28 years, has opened doors for aspirants like Cubales. This change aims to celebrate women of all ages, acknowledging that beauty and grace are not confined to youth.
Cubales, with a confident spirit, aims to inspire the younger generation with her life’s story and experiences. “She believes that the younger generation can learn a lot from her life experiences, most especially grit,” the Miss Universe Philippines organization shared on its Facebook page.
The coronation night, set for February 5, could see Cubales making history as the first-ever Miss Universe Philippines-Quezon City and the oldest contestant in the pageant’s history. Her husband, Marc Cubales, a singer-actor, expressed unwavering support for her journey. He highlighted her positive energy and proven advocacy work as qualities that make her an inspiration and a true beauty queen.
Cubales is no stranger to the pageant world, having represented South Asia in the Mrs. Universe 2017 pageant and holding five beauty titles, including Mrs. Philippines Germany 2000 and Mrs. Asia International 2014.
Her participation follows in the footsteps of Miss Guatemala Michelle Cohn, who made history at the Miss Universe 2023 pageant as the first mother to compete.
