A 64-year-old Thai woman was rescued from a terrifying encounter with a large python inside her home in Samut Prakan, Thailand, on Tuesday.
The woman, identified as Arrom Arunro, was found by police with the snake wrapped tightly around her body. The incident occurred near damp, overgrown bushes outside her house.
“As soon as I sat down, the snake bit me,” Arrom recounted, describing the moment she was preparing to wash dishes.
Police and local officials worked for nearly two hours to free her from the snake’s coils. Arrom was later taken to the hospital for treatment, according to a police statement. The footage of the dramatic rescue was captured on a police officer’s body camera, confirming the gravity of the situation.
The reticulated python, one of the world’s largest snake species, is native to Southeast Asia, including Thailand. In 2023 alone, Thailand saw 26 deaths from snake bites, according to the country’s Department of Disease Control.
The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) notes that these snakes are commonly found across the region, further underscoring the potential dangers posed to residents.
