Six vehicles have been seized after a video of them speeding through two flooded valleys in Ras Al Khaimah went viral on social media. The owners of these 4WDs now face hefty fines amounting to thousands of dirhams and will not see their vehicles for nearly six months.
The incident follows a weekend of heavy rains that led to flooding in several areas across the UAE. The Ras Al Khaimah Police stated that the drivers involved are subject to a Dh2,000 fine, 23 black points, and a 60-day vehicle impoundment as per federal law for entering a flooded valley, regardless of the danger level.
Moreover, a recently enacted law in Ras Al Khaimah adds to their woes, extending the confiscation period of their vehicles by an additional 120 days. To retrieve their vehicles after this period, the owners will need to pay a release fee of Dh10,000.
The police were able to identify the drivers and their vehicles, which were caught on camera navigating through the flooded areas of Al Mazraa and Mina Al Arab. Following this, the drivers were arrested, and the stipulated penalties were applied.
