Boxes of assistance were handed out at Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 1 on Tuesday, January 6, as government agencies mounted a New Year reception for overseas Filipino workers arriving from Kuwait.
A total of 312 returning OFWs were received under the “Bagong Taong Salubong sa OFWs,” an initiative jointly organized by the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration and the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office. The activity was positioned as immediate support for workers coming home after employment abroad, with particular attention to short-term household needs.
The PCSO led the distribution of its ChariTimba packages during the program. The aid packs were presented as family-oriented assistance meant to ease day-to-day expenses upon the workers’ return.
PCSO General Manager Mel Robles described the activity as part of the government’s continuing role in supporting Filipino migrant workers and their families.
“PCSO stands as a partner to your families here in the Philippines, ready to assist and provide support while you continue to work abroad. We want to assure you that you are not alone.
As you strive to build a better future for your loved ones, PCSO remains committed to looking after the welfare of your families back home.”
Officials from both agencies were present at the arrival area, including OWWA Administrator Patricia Yvonne Caunan, who joined the welcome for the returning workers.
OWWA officials said the airport activity forms part of the agency’s broader set of welfare programs and services aimed at assisting migrant workers before departure, during overseas employment, and upon reintegration in the Philippines.
