The General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police has stepped up field operations targeting drivers who modify vehicle engines without permits or engage in behaviour that generates excessive noise on public roads.
Since the start of Ramadan, enforcement data shows 524 traffic fines recorded under this crackdown — 304 for unlicensed engine modifications and 220 for operating a noise-causing vehicle. A total of 251 vehicles have been impounded during the same period.
Drivers whose vehicles are seized face fines of up to AED 50,000 under Local Decree No. 30 of 2023, and may be referred to relevant authorities for further legal proceedings, according to Major General Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, Assistant Commander-in-Chief for Operations Affairs at Dubai Police.
“Making any modifications to a vehicle without obtaining official approvals is a clear violation which necessitates legal action, including impoundment and prescribed fines,” Al Mazrouei said, adding that supervisory campaigns will continue.
Beyond enforcement, Dubai Police is calling on the public to flag violations through two reporting channels: the “We Are All Police” hotline at 901, and the “Police Eye” feature on the Dubai Police mobile application.
Al Mazrouei linked the problem to broader road safety concerns, noting that altered exhaust systems and aggressive driving are not only disruptive but can pose direct risks to other motorists.
