A total of 22 Filipino women are currently being held in two detention facilities in Jordan, according to Philippine Ambassador to Jordan Wilfredo C. Santos.
The ambassador, along with Labor Attaché Armi Evangel N. Peña and other embassy officials, visited the Juweidah Women’s Correctional Facility and the South Amman Nadara Temporary Detention Center on September 15 to check on the condition of the detained Filipinos.
Of the 22 detainees, 21 are being held at Juweidah, while one is in the South Amman Nadara center. The Philippine delegation was welcomed by Lieutenant Colonel Laila Al-Shayab, Assistant Director of Juweidah, and Captain Tahani Suhaiba, Head Supervisor at the Nadara facility.
During the visit, Ambassador Santos expressed gratitude to the Jordanian prison officials for their continued cooperation in ensuring the welfare of detained Filipino nationals as they await deportation or complete their sentences.
Labor Attaché Peña announced that each of the detained Filipinos—regardless of documentation status—will receive a one-time financial assistance of 600 Jordanian Dinar (approximately USD 850). The aid was approved by Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) Secretary Hans Leo J. Cacdac.
