20-year-old Filipino becomes MENA’s youngest finance leader

At just 20 years old, Filipino Daniel Sansano has already made significant strides in the competitive world of finance. Working as an investment banker at JP Morgan, he holds the prestigious title of “MENA’s Youngest Investment Banker.” His journey into the high-stakes world of investment banking started over three years ago, and he hasn’t looked back since.

“I’ve had the privilege of working at JP Morgan Chase & Co., where I’ve been recognized as ‘MENA’s Finance Bright Star’ and received the 2024 global recognition award by Business Insight,” he proudly shares with The Global Filipino Magazine.

Sansano’s career highlight came on September 25, 2024, when he was officially recognized as “MENA’s Youngest Investment Banker.” This achievement is a reflection of his relentless drive and passion for the financial sector. His responsibilities at JP Morgan include managing high-value transactions, structuring complex financial deals, and providing strategic insights to help businesses navigate market fluctuations.

Born in the Philippines, Sansano moved to Saudi Arabia at a young age and then relocated to Qatar in 2013. His decision to work abroad was a deliberate move to push beyond the familiar and gain exposure to global markets.

“I wanted to immerse myself in international finance and gain experience in managing complex transactions in diverse financial environments,” he explains. “Working internationally, especially in regions like MENA, has been instrumental in strengthening my skills in risk management, leadership, and strategic finance.”

Before his time at JP Morgan, Sansano worked at Fidelity International, managing the investments of high-end clients in the United States. “My responsibility was to ensure that their portfolios were optimized for growth and long-term sustainability,” he says. His role went beyond client management, as he also took part in initiatives focused on educating clients about sustainable investing. This experience laid the foundation for his transition to JP Morgan, where he continued to excel in asset management and strategic financial solutions.

When it comes to his current role, Sansano appreciates the dynamic and fast-paced nature of investment banking. “Every day presents a new challenge, whether it’s structuring complex financial deals or helping businesses navigate through market fluctuations,” he notes. For Sansano, the most satisfying aspect of his work is seeing tangible results—whether it’s a successful merger or helping a client achieve their financial goals. “It’s a field that rewards drive, determination, and strategic thinking,” he adds.

Working abroad has provided Sansano with numerous benefits. He values the global perspective he has gained on finance and business. “By immersing myself in different markets, I’ve learned to navigate various economic environments and develop strategies that are globally competitive,” he explains. Building a diverse network of professionals and clients has also broadened his understanding of cultural nuances in business, making him a more well-rounded leader.

Sansano’s journey hasn’t been without its challenges. Growing up abroad, particularly in his school years, he faced skepticism from classmates who doubted his potential to succeed in the competitive field of investment banking. “Their doubt motivated me,” he says. “I knew I had the drive and determination to achieve what others saw as impossible.” The pandemic further tested his resilience as he navigated financial markets in turmoil, guiding clients through economic recovery. “That period sharpened my skills and strengthened my resolve,” he reflects.

Looking ahead, Sansano has ambitious goals. He aspires to become a C-suite executive, with plans to pursue a doctoral degree to deepen his expertise. He is also passionate about advocating for financial literacy, particularly among youth and underrepresented communities. “I want to work on initiatives that empower individuals with knowledge of investment strategies and financial planning,” he says.

To fellow Filipinos working abroad, Sansano offers advice: “Approach this journey with an open heart and mind, and build a support network. Prioritize financial management and take advantage of opportunities for professional growth. With determination and the right mindset, you can overcome challenges and thrive.”

For Sansano, resilience and cultural adaptability have been key to his success. “There have been moments of doubt, but each setback has served as a valuable lesson,” he shares.
