2 mpox cases confirmed in Davao City; one patient dies from complications

Health authorities in Davao City have confirmed two cases of mpox, with one resulting in death, according to a report released Wednesday, April 16, by the Department of Health’s Regional Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit.

The two individuals were brought to the isolation facility at the Southern Philippines Medical Center. The City Health Office (CHO) reported that one of the patients died from complications linked to the infection.

The CHO assured the public that all close contacts of the confirmed cases are being traced and monitored, adding that existing mpox response protocols are being strictly followed.

In a statement, the city’s health officials urged residents not to panic but to continue observing safety measures, including avoiding close skin contact with those showing symptoms, frequent handwashing, disinfecting surfaces, and steering clear of possibly infected animals.
