17 seafarers in Davao finish IMO course with help of OWWA’s ₱14,500 scholarship

Seventeen Filipino seafarers from Region 11 have successfully completed the IMO Model Course 6.09 at the DMMA College of Southern Philippines in Davao City, thanks to the support of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration’s (OWWA) Skills-for-Employment Scholarship Program (SESP).

The program, designed to uplift the skills of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and their dependents, provides up to ₱14,500 in scholarship assistance per course for short-term technical-vocational training conducted in TESDA-accredited training centers.

Under the guidelines, the scholarship is open not only to active OWWA member-OFWs but also to their families. A single OFW may nominate a sibling aged 24 or below, while a married OFW may endorse either a spouse or a child of the same age bracket.
