Dubai has witnessed the opening of approximately 1,500 new food establishments from the beginning of the year through May, according to Sultan Al Taher, the director of the Food Safety Department at Dubai Municipality. This increase brings the total number of food establishments in the emirate to 26,000.
The announcement was made during the Dubai Food Safety Forum, which coincided with World Food Safety Day on June 7. Al Taher highlighted in a Gulf News report that these establishments are integrated into the smart inspection system, facilitating automatic scheduling of inspections based on ongoing risk assessments.
He also emphasized the city’s rigorous monitoring of food safety standards across all food establishments and imports. Notably, Dubai received over 400,000 food shipments from more than 172 countries this year.
