Five separate flights brought 125 overseas Filipino workers and their family members back to the Philippines on Monday as the government stepped up efforts to pull nationals out of conflict-affected areas in the Middle East.
The repatriation was carried out jointly by the Department of Migrant Workers, the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration, and the Department of Foreign Affairs, with all arrivals confirmed safe upon landing.
Officials said the operation reflects a standing order from President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to prioritize the safety and welfare of Filipinos caught in areas experiencing instability.
The DMW outlined three methods currently being used to bring workers home: commercial flights, charter flights, and land border crossings. The choice of method depends on conditions in each host country, including airspace restrictions and the availability of outbound flights.
