The fourth annual WeWalk walkathon, a significant event for social inclusion and awareness, took place at Dubai Science Park, attracting over 1,000 participants. This year’s edition, organized by TECOM Group PJSC in partnership with Dubai Autism Centre (DAC), focused on supporting children with autism.
Participants in WeWalk 2023, ranging from casual walkers to enthusiastic runners, covered a 3.5km route, demonstrating their solidarity for the cause. The event was more than just a physical challenge; it was a powerful statement of community support and inclusivity.
All proceeds, including ticket sales, corporate sponsorships, and other support, will benefit DAC’s vital work. This includes providing education and therapeutic interventions for children with autism. Haif Zamzam, Senior Vice President of Strategy and Marketing at TECOM Group, expressed pride in the event’s impact and the ongoing commitment to fostering a compassionate society in partnership with DAC.
Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) currently affects approximately 1 in every 36 children, a concerning statistic highlighted by the US Centres for Disease Control and Prevention. The UAE has registered over 4,500 autism cases, with a significant male majority.
WeWalk 2023 received widespread support, including from Dubai Sports Council, Islamic Affairs & Charitable Activities Department, and various corporate and media partners. Notably, Cravia Group pledged to donate 20% of its sales from brands like Cinnabon and WKD Chicken at the event to DAC.
Dubai Science Park, the event’s location, is part of the TECOM Group’s portfolio, which includes several significant business districts in Dubai.
